PRP, or platelet-rich-plasma, injections are being used as alternative to surgery in certain injuries. Not only do they help with acute injuries, but have been shown to decrease pain in conditions such as arthritis and tendonitis. Many famous athletes — Tiger Woods, tennis star Rafael Nadal, and several others — have received PRP for various problems, such as sprained knees and chronic tendon injuries. These types of conditions have typically been treated with medications, physiotherapy, or even surgery. Some athletes have credited PRP with their being able to return more quickly to competition.

We will evaluate your injury and review any imaging (X rays, MRIs or CT scans) you may already have had done. This will determine whether we think you will benefit from PRP injections.

The process involves taking blood from your arm and processing it to isolate the PRP, or platelet-rich-plasma. This is injected into the affected site and these cells bind to damaged tissue and promote healing. There is re-evaluation after every injection and multiple injections may be required. This will all be discussed at the initial consultation.
